The Warmth of August
Hi all!
I hope everyone is able to stay some sort of cool throughout this week. This heat has been brutal! When you’re out at the market, we have cold water for free to anyone who needs it. We understand the importance of the heat advisories and strive to make sure we are all safe in this heat.
As we have discussed last week, it is Black Business Month. August is a significant month known as Black Business Month. During this time, we come together to honor and bolster the accomplishments of black-owned businesses throughout the entire country. This month serves as a moment of reflection on the historical hurdles endured by the black community in the realm of business, while also acknowledging the unwavering determination and inventiveness of black entrepreneurs. Through Black Business Month, we have a unique opportunity to shine a spotlight on the invaluable contributions and economic influence that these businesses deliver to their respective communities. By actively seeking out and supporting black-owned businesses throughout the entirety of this month, we actively contribute to the growth and prosperity of the black business community. Such support leads us towards the creation of an economy that is fair, inclusive, and accessible to all individuals. Let us fully embrace this month as a steadfast reminder of the immense strength and untapped potential thriving within the black business community.

This week at the market:
Ms. Eva’s summer garden is winding down, but she has various dried herbs that are fresher and more flavorful than you’ll ever find in a grocery store. They are SNAP eligible just like fresh produce. She also has boiled peanuts, okra, peppers, and possibly fresh basil! She will start to have greens in the next few weeks, so be on the lookout for that! Loy is bringing all sorts of plums (green, red, yellow, and flavor bomb), seeded watermelons, red and green tomatoes, onion, peppers, mangoes, sweet potatoes, and lemons. Mr. Porter and Katie will be back when their gardens start producing for the fall season! In the meantime, please come support all our other vendors with their wonderful produce and baked goods and art.
This summer heat can be a lot, we do have a cooler at the market tent that has cold water if you need it. We are not charging for it, but we would welcome any donations to help us keep this going throughout the summer.
Thank you so much to everyone who supports this market! We are so incredibly grateful for all of you! Whether you are coming in the rain or the shine or both, we are thankful for the support you show us each week! Whether you have yet to make it to the market, but are sharing our information with others, thank you! We could not do this market without you, our community! We really do love to see each and everyone of you each week! We hope to see you tomorrow! Don’t let the skies fool you into not coming out! Please watch our social media for weather cancellations, we aim for the safety of you and our vendors, so if there is severe weather, we will make an announcement on our Instagram and Facebook pages.
