August Has Landed

Mental health…is not a destination, but a process. It’s about how you drive, not where you’re going.

Welcome August!

Most of Middle Georgia started school yesterday and everyone is likely adjusting to a new schedule.

This month is Summer Sun Safety Month and July was UV Safety Month. Given that two summer months both are sun safety months just goes to show us that UV safety is extremely important.

Stay Safe in the Summer Sun: Celebrating Sun Safety Month
As the warmest season of the year arrives, it's important to raise awareness about the significance of sun safety. That's why the month of August has been designated as Summer Sun Safety Month—an opportunity for individuals, families, and communities to prioritize their well-being under the summer sun.
As the intensity of the sun's rays increases during summer, it becomes crucial to adopt protective measures. Sun safety involves more than just slathering on some sunscreen and calling it a day. It encompasses a range of practices and habits that enable us to enjoy the outdoors while minimizing the risks of sunburn, heatstroke, and long-term skin damage.
Here are some essential tips to keep yourself and your loved ones safe this summer:
1. Apply sunscreen regularly: Sunscreen is your first line of defense against harmful UV rays. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30 and apply it generously to exposed skin at least 20 minutes before venturing outside.
2. Seek shade during peak hours: The sun's rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., so it's wise to seek shade during this period. If possible, plan outdoor activities earlier or later in the day when the sun is less intense.
3. Cover up: Wearing loose, lightweight clothing that covers your arms and legs provides an additional layer of protection. Don't forget to wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to shield your face and eyes from the sun.
4. Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to avoid dehydration and heat-related illnesses. Even if you don't feel thirsty, remember to replenish your fluids regularly, especially when participating in physical activities outdoors.
5. Take breaks indoors: Remember to take regular breaks in air-conditioned or shaded areas. This allows your body to cool down and reduces the risk of overheating.
6. Check the UV index: Stay updated on the daily UV index, a measure of the sun's intensity at a given time and location. Higher UV indexes call for increased sun protection.
7. Educate yourself and others: Learn about the dangers of excessive sun exposure and educate your family, friends, and colleagues. Share this knowledge and encourage safe sun practices to protect everyone around you.
By taking these precautions, you can enjoy the sunny delights of summer while minimizing the associated risks. Summer Sun Safety Month serves as a reminder to prioritize
