Bountiful Veggies and Hot Days

If we give our children sound self-love, they will be able to deal with whatever life puts before them.

Happy Wednesday everyone!

It is another hot week! Make sure to stay hydrated and apply your sunscreen if you’re out in the sun for any length of time! When you are at the market, if you need water we have a cooler full of cold water for you. We know this is a hot month, but these veggies are loving it! We hope to see you tomorrow!

I took last week off from the blog, but I wanted to continue covering BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month this week. Why do we acknowledge a separate month from Mental Health Awareness Month in May? Well, this month was created originally as Bebe Moore Campbell National Memorial Mental Health Awareness Month in 2008 to bring awareness to the unique struggles that underrepresented groups face regarding mental illness in the United States.

Who is Bebe Moore Campbell? She was an American author, journalist, teacher, and mental health advocate who dedicated her life to highlighting the mental health needs of the Black community and other underrepresented communities. "Stigma is one of the main reasons why people with mental health problems don't seek treatment or take their medication," Campbell said. "People of color, particularly African Americans, feel the stigma more keenly. In a race-conscious society, some don't want to be perceived as having yet another deficit."

Observing July as BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month offers us the opportunity to bring attention to mental health disparities that are well established among racial and ethnic minorities. Storytelling is an extremely important tool in eliminating these disparities and helping to improve the lives of those who have been disenfranchised by these social factors.

We also have wonderful vegan baked goods and non-vegan baked goods and wonderful arts and crafts for you as well!

This summer heat can be a lot, we do have a cooler at the market tent that has cold water if you need it. We are not charging for it, but we would welcome any donations to help us keep this going throughout the summer.

Thank you so much to everyone who supports this market!  We are so incredibly grateful for all of you! Whether you are coming in the rain or the shine or both, we are thankful for the support you show us each week! Whether you have yet to make it to the market, but are sharing our information with others, thank you! We could not do this market without you, our community! We really do love to see each and everyone of you each week! We hope to see you tomorrow! Don’t let the skies fool you into not coming out! Please watch our social media for weather cancellations, we aim for the safety of you and our vendors, so if there is severe weather, we will make an announcement on our Instagram and Facebook pages.

Okra is really coming in right now! If you are unsure how to cook this, or just tired of making it the same way, here are a bunch o different ways to make it! My children don’t really let me cook it, they do like it as a snack raw. But if you’re like me and prefer it to be cooked, then any number of these recipes are a great way to do so!

We are a partner market with Wholesome Wave Georgia to help make your dollars go further at our market!

Bring your SNAP/EBT card to the market tent to double your spending power!
