March Right Into March
Hello March!
All the spring weather has been amazing! This Thursday looks like we might be getting some relief from the pollen, but we will still be out at the park with wonderful things for you to peruse.
Today actually kicks off the 50th anniversary National Nutrition Month! This was an event created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. It’s a month for everyone to take a moment to learn how to make informed food and activity choices concerning their bodies. This year’s theme is “Fuel for the Future,” where we focus on eating with sustainability in mind. It’s a great way to feed ourselves through every stage of life and keep the environment in mind while doing so. Farmers Markets are the perfect place to start your sustainable eating journey! Napier Heights Food Co-op is a partner market with Wholesome Wave Georgia to make eating sustainably more accessible for everyone. Through our partnership with WWG, NHFC is able to match SNAP benefit dollars.

As a nutritionist student, this health observance is something that is really interesting for me. I really do love how the Academy is combining sustainability and healthy food choices. I cannot wait to dive a little deeper with y’all throughout the month! This article is from one of my favorite dieticians. While it doesn’t specifically focus on “fuel for the future,” I think that it brings up some amazing points on diets in general. “Fuel for the future” focuses on sustainable solutions for healthy food options, which often diets ignore, so I think it ties in nicely.
