National Farmers Market Week

Look at our farmers markets today, bursting with heritage breeds and heirloom varieties, foods that were once abundant when we were an agricultural nation, but that we have lost touch with. Bringing all these back helps us connect to our roots, our communities and helps us feed America the proper way.

Greetings!

It’s National Farmer’s Market Week! I would like to take a moment to thank all of our farmers for such hard work in this heat to get food on our tables! Without them, we would not have this market and the fresh local food they grow.

We are growing our online community, and would love it if you signed up for our weekly newsletter at the bottom of the page. This is how we can let you know about seasonal produce, websites from vendors that you can pre-order from along with the dates those are open, vendor highlights, market highlights, and what is going on in the community.

In case you haven’t noticed, the market has undergone a management change. The market is on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 6:00 pm at Tattnall Square Park. We accept SNAP benefits and are a partner market with Wholesome Wave Georgia.

We are looking forward to seeing you all at the market!

Vesterfield Farms has a pre-order site that you can access from Sunday 1:00pm to Tuesday 9:00am vesterfieldfarms.com

Rag and Frass Farm along with Middle Georgia Growers Co-op has a pre-order site that you can access on Mondays for pickup at the market farmersweb.com/producers/ragandfrassfarm

One of my favorite ways to eat okra is okra fried rice. It’s simple and best of all—not slimy! All you need is some leftover rice (or if you're like me, fresh cooked rice because we eat it all), okra and tomatoes. This link has more in there, but if you are running short on pantry items, okra, tomatoes, rice, and seasonings are the main ingredients you need. Okra Fried Rice click the link to get the recipe!
