Summer Still Hangs On

What makes the farmers market such a special place is that you’re actually creating community around food.
— Bryant Terry

Wednesday is another great day for the market! We cannot wait to see you, but we will! We have many artisans, crafters, farmers, and bakers that would love for you to enjoy their hard work. We would not be a market without our wonderful vendors! We will be starting a vendor highlight soon where each week, Napier Heights Food Co-op will highlight one particular vendor so that you can get to know who creates these wonderful things.

We’re working hard to get community news and happenings featured here and on our Facebook page.  Napier Heights Food Co-op is a partner with Wholesome Wave Georgia to provide more accessible produce to families with SNAP benefits. What that means is when you take a dollar amount off the card, we are able to double this amount to help make fresh fruits and vegetables more accessible to you! Vesterfield Farm will be out so that they can plant for fall and winter harvest, but Middle Georgia Growers Co-op and Salamander Springs has some wonderful produce for us this week!

Butternut squash, Eggplant, Garlic, Jalapenos, Okra, Spaghetti squash, Sweet peppers (MGGC)

Freshly cut mints, oregano, garlic chives; peppers; shallots (Salamander Springs)

Salamander Springs also has beautiful potted perennials, styled and potted succulents, bouquets, and potted mints.

Please give us a follow on Facebook for important updates. The link is: https://www.facebook.com/Napier-Heights-Food-Co-op-105813577853396

Our wonderful produce vendors have pre-order sites. This is a great way to guarantee the seasonal goodness they have. Their hours are below:

Vesterfield Farms has a pre-order site that you can access from Sunday 1:00pm to Tuesday 9:00am vesterfieldfarms.com

Rag and Frass Farm along with Middle Georgia Growers Co-op has a pre-order site that you can access on Mondays for pickup at the market farmersweb.com/producers/ragandfrassfarm

The recipe for this week is around eggplant and mint. The flavors, I think, meld very well. While I’m personally not a huge fan of eggplants just as a vegetable, I have found ways that I like to eat them. This recipe is one of those. Ratatouille is another, but that’s for another day.
